A Gorgeous Rustic Barn Wedding…

A Special Handmade Lace Bridal Dress…

Good morning peeps,

Today we share with you the gorgeous wedding of Stephanie & Sean who got married in a church and then had their reception at a sweet, rustic barn, Denham Court Farm.

I was particularly keen to see this wedding as it belongs to Steph who is our very own Mr & Mrs Unique stationery supplier!

It looks like she thought of everything from dried flower bouquets, to her handmade bridal dress created by her mum, delicious waffles (provided by MMU suppliers The Bourneville Waffle Company,) to the wood fired pizzas! Hope you enjoy looking through the photos as much I do…

The couple: Stephanie & Sean

Why you love this wedding…

There are so many reasons why I love this wedding. The dress, the details, the dog, the waffles, the amount of thought that went behind everything and to ensure the guests were entertained throughout the day. But the thing I love the most about this wedding is seeing Steph get married. We have worked together a few times in the past on photoshoots and so I was really honoured when she asked me to photograph her wedding.

I knew it would be special and that Steph’s creative eye would make it a gorgeous wedding. It was so personal to them and showed off who they are. There’s nothing more amazing than photographing a beautiful wedding, unless you’re photographing the beautiful wedding of a friend.

What were the couple’s requirements…

To just document the day as it happened and to help them through couple portraits. As we didn’t have the chance to do an engagement shoot before the wedding, I knew both Steph and Sean were a little nervous at first but they were just so natural together. They’re such a gorgeous couple, so in love with one another, and that just shows in their photos.

Favourite details of the day…

It has to be Steph’s dress. I still can’t believe her mum made it!

Favourite moment of the day…

There were so many. But I guess it was during Sean’s speech. It was so moving, full of honesty, love, and raw emotion. I may have been hiding behind my camera wiping my tears away…

Tell us how you met and got engaged…

We met almost 8 years ago through mutual friends and our love blossomed over chats on Myspace! We had known for long time that we would one day get married. The conversation came up again and we casually started looking at rings.

We found a beautiful ring in New York (via Etsy) and instantly knew it was the one! It was a raw diamond set in 14k Gold, it was nothing like I’d ever thought I would choose but it was perfect! So the ring arrived safely from New York but Sean insisted on surprising me with the proposal and I had to wait another 4 long months until he finally proposed on Christmas Day (my favourite day of the year!) As we had been together a while, we wanted to get married as soon as was possible, so we booked our wedding for the next September.

What was your main hopes and plan for the day…

Neither of us really enjoys being the center of attention, so we wanted to create an informal & fun atmosphere so everyone could just relax and have a great time! Our reception venue was so beautiful, inside and out, we really hoped it wouldn’t rain (which it didn’t!) as the food, bar and games were all going to be outside!

As a wedding stationery designer I’m a massive perfectionist, I had a really clear picture of how I wanted everything to look – I also changed my mind…a lot!

What was your favourite part of the day…

We both agree that the actual wedding ceremony was our favourite part of the day! I was so nervous outside the Church but as soon as I saw Sean all the nerves disappeared and it felt like it was just us two there! It’s so easy to get caught up in all the details of the day (which I’ll admit I completely did) but looking back, the ceremony and officially getting married was by far the best part!

How was your day unique…

We took on the huge project of organising everything ourselves, which is why Denham Court Farm was perfect for us as it allowed us to choose the all the suppliers and decorate the barn to suit us.

We wanted to really put our individual stamp on the day, we didn’t want to feel like we had to follow any particular trends or formal traditions, we just wanted the day to reflect us as a couple!

We had a Caraturist and Magician to keep our guests entertained when they arrived at the venue- the Caraturist was so popular, she stayed long into the evening because she had such a queue going on!

My mum really was my wedding hero, she made me the most beautiful wedding dress, which I will treasure forever. Previously, I had tried a few dresses on in dress shops, but I never had that special ‘this is the one’ moment. I knew that Mum could make me something perfect and with some gentle persuasion she agreed to take on the task!

We chose to have dried flowers for the bouquets and bridesmaid head crowns – which Mum also made! The dried flowers also really complimented the reception venue which was a beautiful Grade II listed barn.

We wanted to avoid a long, formal wedding breakfast so chose to have some exciting & more interactive food options! We had a delicious hog roast for our main and then (one of our best wedding choices) we hired the amazing Bournville Waffle Company to provide dessert, which was served from a quirky converted caravan! In the evening we treated our guests to delicious wood fired pizzas cooked fresh by The Tinderbox from the cutest teardrop trailer!

Our guests partied long into the night to the fantastic Paramounts who played a great mixture of dance floor filling classics!

What was your biggest expense…

The wedding reception, Denham Court Farm, was the biggest wedding expense, but it was well worth the money!! Kim, the owner, was amazingly helpful both before and on the day.

How did you save money…

We managed to save some money by making a lot of the decor ourselves. I also made all of our wedding stationery so we made a huge saving on this.

As my degree was in Jewellery design and Goldsmithing, I also made our wedding bands, not only did that save money but it made them extra special for us.

What was it like working with your photographer…

Clare was amazing, we had known her prior to the wedding as I had taken part in some of her themed wedding shoots and we became friends from there. Sean and I don’t particularly like having our photo taken but having Clare as our photographer really put us completely at ease.   Clare captured the atmosphere of the day so well, when we look back through the photos it feels like being transported back into that moment- we really couldn’t have asked for anything more!

Advice to any couples about to get married…

Our best advice for couple getting married would be to have someone, either a wedding planner or a Toastmaster on the day to make sure you get to do everything you wanted to do and keep the day running to schedule. Our Toastmaster, Gloria, was outstanding on the day, she kept everyone (even the grooms Dad!) in line & kept the day on schedule! As we organised everything ourselves, I dread to think how the day would have gone without her!
