A rustic meets Midsummers Night Dream Wedding…

A Sweet Family Affair…

Today we bring you the gorgeous rustic wedding of Ash & Meredith which took place at The Forge- Freedom Church. The real special thing about this wedding was that the photos were taken by the grooms sister, Mr & Mrs Unique supplier Jessica Withey! I think its really sweet that Jess wanted to capture the day for her bro- big love!!!

Along with the stunning outside wedding ceremony with its lush decorations and comfy seating, it really looked like a perfect day! Here Jess and her bro Ash, and his new wife Meredith tell us about their day:

Name of the couple: Ash & Meredith

Why you love this wedding…

Of course I loved this wedding because it was my brothers. I was acting as a bridesmaid / best man and photographer – but what I really loved about it was that Ash and Meredith were SO relaxed about their wedding on the day.

The atmosphere was incredible, the sun was shining, and everybody felt like family. The reception was a giant picnic in the orchard where everybody had brought their own hamper. I may be biased but this was genuinely the best wedding I’ve ever attended both as family, and as a professional.

What were the couple’s requirements…

As their photographer, I have to say Ash and Mere were the best kind of couple. They had NO requests from me – all they wanted were some photos that would remind them of their day.

This allowed me to actually get the shots that matter. My time wasn’t taken up with hundreds of family photos, instead – we were free to go off into a field of wheat and get the kind of shots that you can hang on your wall. Precious moments that can not be staged.

Favourite moment of the day…

My favourite moment of the day HAD to be when Meredith literally ran down the aisle to get to Ash – and once she got there she threw her arms around him like nothing else mattered but getting married to him that day.

Briefly how you met and got engaged…

We met at our church, Freedom church, in Hereford. I’m American (Meredith) & had come over to do a leadership course that is run by Freedom Church. We met on my first Sunday at Freedom, when some friends invited us over for lunch.

We’ve been best friends & pretty much inseparable ever since. Ash planned a trip to America in April 2014, just so he could ask for my dad’s blessing on us getting married. Exactly 2 days after we got back to Hereford from America, Ash took me to Grosmont Castle, one of the first places we ever went together. There, he’d had his sister Jess & her boyfriend Adam set up a picnic & music for us. When we walked up to the castle and I saw the picnic, I realized what was happening. Then, he got down on one knee & asked me to marry him.

What was your theme for the wedding day…

Our theme is difficult to explain. I guess you could call it rustic meets midsummer night’s dream. It had an easy-going, romantic feel. When planning, we decided we wanted our day to be ethereal, almost dream-like, yet comfortable for our guests.

What was your favourite part of the day…

We had a bonfire in the evening & that turned out to be a huge hit! It was so much fun! We were one big happy family all dancing around the fire, drinking good wine, & just having a laugh! Everyone was finally free to act absolutely ridiculous & we LOVED every minute of it!

Special details from the day…

There were two big things that helped make our day perfect & especially unique:  the weather and the chairs. The weather was insanely beautiful! Everyone thought we were crazy when we said we wanted an outdoor wedding in England, but we didn’t really care. We knew what we wanted & just believed that it would all work out. Turns out it did! The entire day was sunny & warm, exactly how we’d pictured it in our heads.

Now, I know it sounds odd to be so impressed with our seating choice, but the chairs really were awesome. When we first got engaged & I pictured our wedding day in my head, one of the main things I imagined were tons of mismatched antique chairs. Thankfully, Ash loved the idea too.

I never thought we would actually pull it off, but thanks to some connections, a local antique shop allowed us to borrow over one hundred mismatched seats! Exactly what we wanted! There were velvet sofas, church pews, garden benches, rustic distressed wooden chairs…you name it, we had it! Our wedding wouldn’t have had the same atmosphere without those two features.

What was it like working with your photographer…

Easy. It just so happens that our photographer, Jess Withey, is family (Ash’s sister). She knows us, like really knows us, & had been involved in the entire process, from the proposal to the wedding day. Because she knows us so well, she knew exactly how to make us look completely at home in front of the camera.

She knew that poses weren’t the way to go with us. She literally put us in the middle of a field and allowed us to be us. She waited for the moments when Ash made me laugh (which was a lot because he always makes me laugh), or he kissed my forehead, or when we were just sweetly talking to each other. When Jess takes your photos it’s just easy. There’s nothing awkward or posed about it.

Advice to any couples about to get married…

No matter how much money, planning, or stress you put into your wedding day, it will always turn out exactly as it should. Worries may come leading up to the wedding, but as long as the two of you being together is right, your wedding day will be perfect.

A huge congratulations and thank you SO much for sharing this beautiful photos with us! If you want to find out more about Jessica Withey Photography you can visit her website here or see her listing on the directory here.
