A Stylish Rustic Barn Wedding…

Tradition With A Rustic Twist…

Morning folks, today we share with you the beautiful, stylish wedding of Nicola & Russel. Mr & Mrs Unique supplier and Photographer Charlotte from Three Flowers Photography sent me this wedding, and when it hit my inbox I really loved the fact they wanted a traditional wedding but they added in beautiful details to give it a real rustic feel, perfect for the location of Blake Hall in Ognar, Essex. Enjoy…

Couple: Nicola & Russell

Wedding Venue: All Saints Church, Writtle

Reception Venue: Blake Hall, Ongar

Why you love this wedding…

The venue was stunning, working perfectly with Nicola & Russ’s rustic theme and I felt that the colours of the bridesmaids dresses and the floral arrangements lent themselves beautifully to the gardens in full spring bloom! This wedding was just so very pretty!

What were the couple’s requirements…

To capture their day naturally and unobtrusively with the exception of a handful of group portraits (and to have a rainy back up plan, which I felt Blake Hall offered in bounds, plus, I always think there’s something really fun about wellie boot and umbrella shots, though we were blessed with a sunny afternoon and didn’t need Plan B!)

Favourite details of the day…

I adored the little mason jars with the twine bows and straws that the guests drank Pimms and Traditional Lemonade from – very cute!

Favourite moment of the day…

My favourite bit of the day was shooting the couples portraits. Nicola and Russ where very easy going and needed little direction and the spring sunshine in the glorious walled garden made it a real joy to shoot with a lot of variation on what we got, I did a little happy dance on the way back to the party! We were even served with some very tasty canapés mid-session! What’s not to love!?

Charlotte Kitchenside_0042 Tell us how you met and got engaged…

We met on a night out in Chelmsford roughly 10 years ago and went on our first date about a year after meeting.

We got engaged on Valentines day in Central Park, New York. Russ proposed by the fountain in the snow which was really romantic and a huge shock after all the time we’d been together!

How would you describe your wedding theme…

Rustic, yet traditional

What was your main hopes and plan for the day…

We really wanted our wedding to be fun and relaxed but still have the traditional elements. For example, we had our speeches before our meal so everyone could enjoy the food and be free from any worries.

Was your favourite part of the day…

It’s hard to pick one favourite moment! Our ceremony at All Saints Church was really special to us, especially having all our friends and family there to witness it. Some had travelled a long way and that meant a lot to us both.

How was your day unique…

Russ’s brother Karl kindly designed all our stationary, from the invites to table plan and menus. They were truly unique and fitted in perfectly with our theme.

What was your budget…

We didn’t have a set budget in mind but we were mindful of ways to keep costs down. However, there were some areas we didn’t compromise on such as our food and band.

What was your biggest expense…

The reception was overall the most expensive but individually it was our band. They were fantastic and had everyone up and dancing and even played a longer set as our guests were having so much fun.

How did you save money…

By making and doing a lot ourselves. For example, we made all our table numbers and spent a long time sourcing bunting and other small touches which helped our wedding feel more personal.

What was it like working with your photographer…

Charlotte was fantastic, she helped us a lot in the preparation leading up to the wedding so we knew what to expect, and also reassured us if it rained that there was always a plan B! We have been really happy with our photos and would recommend Three Flowers Photography to anyone getting married.

Advice to any couples about to get married…

Don’t panic! Everything works out ok in the end and even if it’s heavily raining in the morning the weather can still get better!
