Love is in the air…

If you’ve found yourself on this post then chances are you’ve just said YES! Congratulations!

So, what now!? With all the excitement of getting engaged, usually comes a truck load of stress too. To help you out, we’ve got some top tips to make the most of your engagement, how to get ahead with your wedmin, and tackling the finer details…

Questions, questions, questions…

Before you’ve even started showing off your ring the questions will come flooding in… ‘Have you set a date?’…’Am I invited?’…’How did he propose?’…Everyone around you will be super excited so get ready for your engagement to be the topic of conversation!

If you don’t want to give too much away, or you haven’t made any decisions yet, come up with a blanket statement to use whenever someone comes pestering. Something like “We’re looking at having a Autumn wedding but haven’t worked out the finer details yet” or “We’re just so excited being engaged right now”. They should get the hint!

At this point, hold off inviting anyone or making them part of your wedding party. You can’t really un-ask someone to be your bridesmaid, so really take the time to think about it.

Guest list & budget…

Your guest list will 100% change over the course of your engagement, but putting together an initial draft will give you an idea of the size of your wedding.

Budget – not fun, a little scary but oh so necessary! It is crucial to figure your money out before you plan a single thing, to avoid going way over what you can afford. Having an idea of both of these things will be important when you start looking at venues and contacting suppliers.

Think about dates…

If you want to get married during wedding season (May-September), and you have a venue in mind, you’ll need to get in there quickly to secure your preferred date. Popular suppliers can also be booked up months in advance, so it may help to do a bit of research into those you’re interested in before setting the final date.

After booking your venue and ceremony, you can also consider sending out ‘Save the Dates’ to your proposed guest list. The more notice you give them, the better your attendance will be.

Hire in some help…

Having a wedding planner or stylist can be an absolute lifesaver when it comes to pulling together a wedding. It’s also a common misconception that wedding planners are only for celebrities or couples with a grand budget! Whether you’d like someone to organise the entire day, help with finding suppliers or just set up on the day itself, having an expert on hand is a sound investment. You can check out some amazing wedding planners and stylists over on our directory HERE.

Embrace the moment…

Take some time to breath, relax and enjoy your engagement! Being caught up in a whirlwind of excitement can lead to making rash decisions and putting down deposits on things you may change your mind about later down the line. Sit down together with a bottle of wine and a fresh notebook, get all those initial ideas down on paper, and maybe even start a pinterest board – The rest can wait!
