Behind The Scenes… Flora & Fauna Shoot

Dewsall Court Flora & Fauna Shoot…

Back in April we visited the most incredible exclusive wedding venue Dewsall Court for a Flora & Fauna themed Mr & Mrs Unique photo shoot. Dewsall Court was an obvious choice for the venue; with its impressive house and beautiful gardens that look over the Herefordshire Countryside- it was the perfect backdrop.

As with all styled shoots I like to document what goes on behind the scenes to show you how our amazing suppliers work and deliver on style, so we asked the talented Jess from Jessica Withey Photography to come along and capture us at work.

We used some amazing dress designers, beautiful blooms, delicious cake and treats, hand drawn illustrated stationery, delicate paper flower pom poms, plus a gorgeous Indian Ambassador car from Kushi Cars.  Using these amazing suppliers we were able to create an overtly feminine look whilst adding a young, fashion edge through the accessories and styling.

Lorie X…

Laura: Lorie x is inspired by romanticism and great love stories, mixed in with the beauty which is all around us. Nature is a really heavy influence, and the pieces used for the Flora & Fauna shoot included the Estella Lace Top – in which the scalloped edges have been lain onto each other to create a delicate feathery effect; and the Ophelia Skirt – a flowing silk organza skirt which features a subtle digital print created from photographs of flowers taken in a local park last Summer. The theme for the shoot was almost made for the pieces.

Kate Cullen Styling…

Kate: The table styling was designed around the beautiful centrepiece by Wild Bunch – with floral patterned china and my silk painted floral napkins, coloured glassware and the stunning stationery. Flowers, fruit and cakey treats covered the table in a cacophony of colour and texture that further highlighted the shoot theme.

It was all beautifully framed by blossom branches tied with my silk ribbon against the barn wall, and also by a statement backdrop featuring Pompom blossoms brightly hued paper peonies – the perfect contrast for the delicate floral-detailed dress from E&W Couture.

Naomi Emmanuelle: Bridal makeup should reflect a client’s personal style, and creating looks for a bridal shoot is no different, it’s all about finding personality and developing ideas.  There was so much creativity here it was easy to be inspired.

I wanted to keep the first look clean and iridescent –  Illamasqua’s highlight in ‘Aurora’ is perfect for achieving a naturally glowy base that has perfect sheen without excess shimmer.  I use this product all the time on brides in my professional kit.

I then built up the intensity of the look by adding a pure purple pigment to the eye and a creamy pink lip with plenty of gloss, using Illamasqua in ‘Move’.Finally, I created a blown out, smoky eye, keeping everything else soft to ensure the look stayed fresh.

When we applied the incredible floral tattoos, I felt they called for the make up to have a tougher feel.  So just before shooting, I decided to add MAC Lipglass to the eyelid – I loved the high shine, almost latex finish this created over the intense black shadow.

The Cake…

This amazing cake was the creation of Natasha from Nevie-Pie Cakes. Based on the flora and fauna theme it included a painted stag head, watercolour details and paper flowers… Magical!

Dearly Beloved Stationery…

Abigail: We specialise in creating bespoke wedding stationery with a modern twist, as the theme for the wedding was Flora and Fauna we wanted the stationery to be feminine but with guts. We designed a collection that would mimic the vibrant blooms of flowers featured in the wedding day styling and give guests a flavour what was to come.

We were inspired by the over the top romance of Victorian greetings cards and pattern; our hand painted lines mixed with the bold colour scheme gave the stationery a pretty yet edgy look.
