McFayden Millinery is me, Jodi. I am a trained milliner who has found a passion for making bridal veils and headpieces.
It began a few years ago when I started to get requests to make bridal headpieces. I enjoyed it so much I have now made this the focus of my business.
I design and make everything myself using antique lace, vintage brooches and buttons. I spend a lot of time sourcing my materials, scrawling through online shops, visiting antique fairs and vintage markets. This usually means that no two pieces are the same and I can make brides a one off bespoke piece for their special day. I can work with the bride to design something unique to them that beautifully compliments their dress.
I make all types of veils from a cute birdcage to a long delicate flowing veil. I also make bridal hats and headpieces using satin or sinamay. I use beading to add delicate patterns to lace.
My work is influenced by historical fashions and I love looking at brides from past decades to inspire my designs. I have recreated veils from the past such as Marilyn Monroe’s veil and Priscilla Presley’s.
What Makes Us Unique…
I love to use vintage and antique materials in my pieces and am always collecting lace, brooches, buttons and beads. I like the idea that all my pieces tell a story from the past, who wore this brooch before, who visited the old haberdashery store in New York where this lace came from. I can even rework an old family veil into a new piece, or use some treasured fabric to create something special.
