I’m Kelly Kearley owner of Not Your Average I Do. I’ve worked in the events industry for as long as I can remember, however my passion has always been for weddings, I love love! We strive to be different and stand out from the crowd and this can be seen in all our services from our bespoke styling, to our lighting options and our huge range of props in our Wedding Warehouse. This year I’ve introduced wedding planning workshops to help those couples who want to get stuck in and run their wedding from start to finish. I love sharing my knowledge with couples and setting them up with everything they need to make their wedding day a success.
What are a few of your favourite things?
I love my family, a good glass of wine sitting round a log fire, the sunshine and travel.
But my passion is organising and running weddings and events. It is in my blood. I started at 15 organising the sixth form leavers ball and haven’t looked back!
This year I’m really loving copper and have built up a beautiful range of copper wedding accessories – including table centres, table plans, cake stands and glass votives. I think it looks beautiful set against fresh foliage, soft white drapes and festoon lighting.
Tell us about where the magic happens – where’s your HQ?
Our HQ is in the country village of Partridge Green in West Sussex. The Wedding Warehouse is a hub of wedding lovliness where we store all our props, meet our couples to inspire them for their upcoming weddings and also run our wedding workshops. It gives our couples the chance to see some of our props and get fully immersed in everything Not Your Average!
How and why did you start up your business?
When I got married back in 2010 I was shocked at the lack of variety available. I wanted something different for our wedding and went far and wide to source everything to make our day truly special. This is when the idea of Not Your Average I Do was born. With 10 years in the corporate events industry, I knew I had what it would take to create a successful wedding business and it has grown from strength to strength.
What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing the couple’s face as they walk into their transformed venue, we go out of our way to ensure every couple is astonished at the transformation and seeing our hard work pay off by the joy on their faces makes it all worthwhile!
What makes your work unique?
Our mission is always to deliver something different for our couples. We do this by offering a truly personalised service. This can only be done by getting to know our couples, meeting them at their chosen venue and running through every aspect of their vision. We then go off and source anything we will need to create their vision and work long unsociable hours to make sure we deliver!
What kind of couples are ‘your couples’?
Our couples are all unique, however they are all looking to create their vision of their wedding day. This generally involves fairytale draping or urban festoon lighting and everything in between.
What would be your advice for couples looking to plan a wedding totally unique to them?
Think about your personalities and what it is that makes you different from everyone else and use this to create your vision for your wedding day. That way, your guests will see your personality shining through your choices of venue, styling and all the little details that make a wedding unique. It is your day, your way!
What inspires you?
Being at the heart of the wedding industry, I like to keep on top of trends and see what other successful suppliers are creating. I am inspired by their work and it pushes me to do my best and create even better installations for my clients. I keep on top of what trends are emerging out of California as I find this is what we will see in the UK in the following season.
What’s been your proudest moment so far?
Picking up the award for Best National Venue Stylist 2018 at The Wedding Industry Awards in January has definitely been the icing on the cake so far. However there have been so many amazing milestones, from winning a regional award in our first year of opening to launching the Wedding Warehouse and all the weddings we have created along the way!
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learnt?
Stay focused on what you’re passionate about, work hard and you will be rewarded. Don’t be swayed by what others are doing around you. Stay true to yourself and you will always enjoy your work.
In your opinion, what makes a great wedding?
US! But seriously, a great wedding comes down to planning. You need to make sure every detail is organised and every eventuality is thought about. A wedding goes wrong when you don’t think about your guests experience or you have no wet weather plan for example.
What exciting bits are in the pipeline?
Not yet announced, we will be running “Not Your Average WedFest” in September at our new beautiful wedding field in Uckfield, Sussex. Watch this space for further announcements.
We also have loads of upcoming events at our Wedding Warehouse for couples and fellow wedding suppliers.
