Why you love this wedding…

I love this wedding because of how contrasting it is. The service and drinks reception in Regents Park were elegant, timeless and stylish. Something I think any couple want to feel on their wedding day. Your wedding day is the one day where you can make it anything you want, and Ananda and Darren did just that. Back at their venue was where they could leave all formalities at the door and unleash their fun and vibrant personalities onto their wedding. You will see from the images, how fun, creative, and vibrant the décor was in the Brewery. I simply loved the contrast, from chic and elegant to fun and vibrant, this wedding had it ALL and it was awe-inspiring to photograph.

What were the couple’s requirements…

Ananda and Darren wanted beautiful photography that would capture the true essence of the day. Stylish and natural photographs that they could look back on and remember how they felt on that day, and remember how beautiful they were. My un-obtrusive and natural approach was also appealing to them; they didn’t want traditional photography that imposed upon the day, just a natural documentary of their story.

Favourite details of the day…

There were so many awesome DIY details from this day it is pretty hard to choose! From Ananda’s hand made bouquet with draping silk ribbon, to Darren’s own beer recipes on tap from the bar! I think my favourite detail would have to be the ‘Balloon Tassel Heaven!’ They made such an amazing impact inside the brewery and helped to created some beautiful and vibrant images.

Favourite moment of the day…

Darren’s speech…. A complete tear jerker and full of beautiful emotion. The images speak for themselves.

Ananda & Darren…

Tell us how you met & got engaged…

We met Glastonbury festival 8 years ago, and got engaged while on holiday together in Thailand. Darren proposed with two rings handed down by his family! Yes, I have two engagement rings!

How was your day unique…

Darren and I met at Glastonbury, Darren is a Brewer so we wanted to bring these aspects into our day to create an urban festival theme within the brewery. Darren also created the recipes of 4 of the beers we had on tap, and we did all of the décor ourselves, which gave a truly personalised feel to our day.

What was your budget…

Under 10k

What was your biggest expense…

Tables, chairs and glasses. Because our venue was so urban we felt it was important to add some feminine touches with crisp white linen tables and beautiful runs table runners.

How did you save money…

We pulled in a lot of favours from friends and did everything DIY! There are some wonderful things you can buy but making tassels garlands and other tissue paper creations ourselves not only saved us hundreds of pounds but also gave us some lovely creative weeks with friends in the lead up to the wedding.

Do the flowers yourself. We went to Covent Garden market and bought some amazing flowers which we used to make the bouquets and table flowers. Leaving us money to spend on beautiful silk ribbons from VV Rouleaux and stunning embroidered trims for the table jam jars.

What was is like working with your photographer…

Darren: She sums it up perfectly: Unobtrusive natural & stylish wedding photography. Philippa conducted herself wonderfully, she was friendly and had a lovely manner, becoming a part of our day while not intruding. She captured the mood of the day and some really special couple portraits that are both a lovely shot and allow our personalities to shine through.

I would not naturally choose to be photographed but I would have no hesitation about doing another shoot with Philippa. She made Ananda and myself feel at ease instantly and that our day was in safe hands. We could see from her portfolio that she had an eye for detail and we felt sure all our hard work would be captured.

Ananda : Philippa both shared our vision but brought lots of her own ideas to us. What with her beautiful eye and love of everything ‘wedding’ she added value over and above the beautiful pictures she took. She was available to talk through how the layout of the registry room would impact the mood of the images and she offered us some great advice. On the day she helped make us feel at ease & provided really natural direction where necessary to create some lovely photographs. We had such a personal and individual wedding we wanted someone who would be sympathetic and share our vision, we couldn’t have asked for more.

Advice to any couples about to get married…

If you are planning a DIY wedding, I would still recommend having someone come to do your hair and make up as this removes the pressure of worrying about doing it yourself.

Be philosophical about the details, as much as every detail may have seemed important in the planning, in the grand scheme of the day they you will get caught up in the moment and things will inevitably be overlooked. If there are details that really matter to you both, entrust them to someone else, don’t try to do them yourself on the day.

Remember, anything is possible – we planned our wedding in 3 months!

Congratulations to you both and thanks for sharing! If you want to see more of Philippa’s work, check out her website here.
