Tell us how you met and got engaged…

We met at work over the snack van! We have been together for 11 years now and had been saving for a long time to finally tie the knot.

What was your main hopes and plan for the day…

We both love the outdoors, we are both creative people who like vintage and the nostalgia of the good old days. But above all we really wanted our guests to have a great time and have fun. we wanted to create the atmosphere of a village fete with a few quirks from our own personalities. We started with the long yurt, which would comfortably house our guests and band whilst looking simplistic and bohemian with its wooden structure. From this we built a circle of fun, traditional fair games, vintage crepe van, ribbon tree, and “The Landscapers Legs” Adams hand built pub, which supplied anything you might wish for for a summer wedding, from piano and vintage pinball to cockles, pork scratchings and ice creams for the children. In the centre of our ring was the Kadai Fire bowl, where as the sun starts to set you could snuggle up with a blanket, grab a sparkler or snack on a Twinkie chatting with friends.

Was your favourite part of the day…

When we walked out of the church, looked each other in the eye, stopped to wipe our tears and take the moment in. We were just so happy!

How was your day unique…

Adam had made survival kits for all the men using old tobacco tins, containing everything you might need out in the wild, representing Adams outdoorsy attitude. I had made a personalised vintage “Vogue” dress pattern envelope containing buttons, thread, a handy sewing kit, and vintage cut out dolls of the bride and groom, these were a reflection of my vintage and creative skills.

For the pub, we hand painted a pub sign which hung outside on its post, hired deck chairs(from Cheltenham Yurt Hire) and bought pub umbrellas, creating a nice area to sit out in the sun. Inside the pub was a recreation of everything you might want from the perfect pub, barrels of local beers, spirits from around the world, snacks and games. The children played on the piano whilst the adults had a game of darts, to top it off there was a no alto pineapple ice bucket, disco ball and oriental carpet, what more could you need?

How did you save money…

As our budget was quite small, we sourced some other flowers for our tables from a local supplier and Adam bought potted ferns and white hydrangea which we wrapped up in hessian and twine for decorations.

It took some time but almost everything we used was either handmade or sourced second hand. We made 100m of rag bunting using vintage fabrics in pastel florals, mini Pom Pom trim skirted jam jars for drinks and flowers. My mum made vintage lace bunting from table cloth scraps. We collected 80 sets of bone handle cutlery from car boot sales and charity shops.

What was it like working with your photographer…

Emma at ELS design photography was one of the best finds of our wedding. She has been so professional from the start, coming up with new and creative ideas. We had a meeting to start getting to know each other and the photography styles we liked, we the had a love shoot, so we could have a practice at posing and relaxing in front of the photographer, we didn’t want wooden smiles on the big day. Our photo shoot was in a field setting and we had fun playing around on the bales with our dog Baxter. Emma made us feel relaxed and came up with some great ideas.

On the big day Emma used every spare moment to make sure all the details of the day were captured, fortunately the sun was beaming and she created some beautiful shots in our south down setting. If you are looking for a contemporary photographer who captures the fun and emotion of your day, then Emma is the one for you.

Advice to any couples about to get married…

Save save save and don’t always opt for the easy option, it’s your day so put your stamp on it. Building your wedding from scratch is not for the faint hearted but was worth the efforts for such a beautiful day, this gave us a real sense of achievement.

Beautiful – thanks for sharing!
