A New Resident Expert…
Earlier this week we introduced Natalie & Guy from Curious Fair as our new craft and DIY experts, and today its the turn of Kelly from Belle’s Events and Sussex Love Bug. The lovely Kelly is one busy lady, not only running her own fab VW Beetle wedding transport business, but she is also wedding fair queen, running a number of successful fairs across the South of England.
Today we have a quick chat with Kelly, finding out how she started and what she will be able to do for you upcoming brides… Over to Kelly:
Hello, my name is Kelly, I’m 36, am a mum of two beautiful children and I run two wedding companies from my humble office in Shoreham-By-Sea, just down the coast from Brighton.
Two years ago I was made redundant from a large corporation and during a wedding that summer decided that buying a vintage VW Beetle and starting a wedding car business might be fun. Within three weeks and many late night eBay searches later my husband Joss was going to pick Belle a 1965 beauty up and bring her home, soon after he built www.sussexlovebug.co.uk and we were off! We haven’t stopped since, pootling around the Sussex countryside, sitting bumper to bumper in central Brighton with nervous brides to be looking out to sea, yep, it’s been emotional.
But this was just the beginning, I got myself a little part time job through a friend at Brighton Centre and Hove Town Hall and managed to wangle holding a Vintage Wedding Fair in Hove with Belle proudly parked out the front. it was such a success that as soon as it was over I wanted to do it all again. I spoke to Joss and we soon figured out that starting an events business from home would be the best idea and so Belle’s Events was born. it’s quite handy being married to a web developer and graphic designer!
Since then I have grown the business to include The Quirky Boutique Wedding Fair, veering away from but running alongside the strictly vintage vibe of Belle’s Vintage Wedding Fair and also run promotional wedding events for The Dome, a stunning building on Worthing seafront.
I also run Vintage and Reloved Fairs and am in the throws of developing a new wedding site (watch this space). I also run a blog called Belle’s Blog on which I allow exhibitors to tell the stories about real weddings they have booked at my events, give small business advise and generally talk about what I am up to and what’s coming up on the Belle’s Events calendar.
I have to say the most fun I have had at an event recently was at May’s Quirky Boutique Wedding Fair, Helen of Doily Days Loves Weddings Magazine decided to pop-up a photo shoot to place on the next issue of the magazine and it was a blast! The Doily Diner was built within the fair and the live photo shoot included many of the exhibitors pieces, dresses, cakes, jewellery, and was shot by Velvet Storm Photography, you can see the photos in issue 4 soon!
We also had over 70 suppliers all unique in their own way, including Petal and Feast, Proud Cabaret, Doris Loves, Hope & Harlequin, Nitty Gritty Events, Bijou Junkie and of course Belle herself. I guess it’s a snow ball effect, the more and more epic wedding suppliers I get to know, the more they tell their mates and colleagues and we grow and grow.
So why am I on here as a resident expert? What do I know? I know how to find the most unique and truly fabulous wedding suppliers, not just down here but all over the UK, I can give you tips on visiting and using wedding fairs to your advantage and also provide advise on starting a small wedding business, oh and Ive recently took part at The Blogcadamy so I’ll hopefully be blogging like a pro!
A huge welcome to Kelly who had joined our new team of resident experts. Each month I shall be blogging about what they’ve been up to, plus sharing their advice and guidance with you, so keep your eyes peeled! Xx
