Jennifer’s Paper…

Tell us a bit about your business…

Jennifer’s Paper is a wedding invitation and stationery design business who also creates paper goods and designs for events, social stationery, and small businesses.

What made you start up the business…

I created my first wedding invitation suite and stationery for my hometown best friend back in 2007 and loved every minute of it. Creating something so special for a couple on one of their biggest days of their lives together – and getting to be a part of that unique experience was amazing.

I realized how much I loved that experience and kicked off designing more and more weddings since my own in 2011 with many other couples on bespoke designs for their weddings and for other events. I love all of the details that go into each and every piece. I always did it as a side business as I was in the branding design world in New York City, but since moving to London (yes, I’m an American transplant) I decided I wanted to make pretty paper for weddings full-time!

What makes you Unique…

I think what makes me unique is that I blend bits of the couple or their event into their invitation through patterning (I LOVE patterns) as well as truly pay attention to every bit that they tell me from the moment we meet until the last item is designed.

I come from a branding background and am always thinking about ways to insert little elements that can mix and match, and which can be carried from the invitation to the envelope to all of the fun day-of pieces like the menus and the table markers. And even for couples that go with my customizable collections, I’m there from the beginning to help out with every detail possible and come up with ideas for their big day.

What kind of couples match your style of service…

Couples who are willing to do something a little bit unconventional AND fun when it comes to paper goods are the ones who suit me best. Those who are looking for a mash-up of classic meets modern meets happy!

I love couples who want to put pieces of their personality into their paper goods, whether through wording or design elements, they aren’t scared to go against the norm (or their mum!).

Tells us what you love about your business…

My business is one where I truly get to meet and learn about different couples and I love learning their “story” and what makes them tick. I also like hearing the funny things that people do not like – funny quirks who make people who they are.

There is also something so incredible about showing couples their initial designs with their names, wedding date and all proper copy in their invitation for the first time – it’s when the wedding gets REAL for them. I always say “Guys! It’s official now, you’re getting married – it’s on paper!”

Most favourite event/ wedding…

Ah, this is such a tough question. I’ve had the privilege of designing for some of my best friends as well as total strangers and even myself and each was an incredible and different experience.

However, if I had to choose one it would be designing the invitations for my grandparents 70th anniversary party a few years ago. There is something amazing about having your Grandparents as your clients (with the aid of my uncle) and helping to create a monumental and rare (but celebratory) piece like that – 70 years married. WHOA!

People’s reaction to your business…

I’d say people generally react to my designs and my business by really loving the fresh, contemporary feel it has. It’s happy meets classic meets personable.

Future plans…

I love the couples I get to design wedding invitations for so my near-future plan is to create designs so I can keep working with them AFTER they’ve gotten married! A recent client told me they’ve unofficially hired me as their designer for “life” and I want to be that person. Those next steps that married couples take and want to share with their world – moving house announcements, baby shower invitations, birth announcements. anniversary parties. I want to be there with them every step!
