Woodland Wedding with magical festival vibes at Low Hall The Lakes…
Morning all :)
I can’t wait to share with you the magical Autumn wedding of Charlie and Bekki which was held at Low Hall The Lakes; an enchanted woodland and barn wedding venue in the Lake District.
With a festival inspired outdoor ceremony and a beautiful reception in the old stone barn with ribbon and flower chandeliers (created by the bride herself,) it truly was a gorgeous, flower-filled day.
Over to the couple to tell us more…
Charlie + Bekki…
How did you meet and get engaged?
We met in 2004 through mutual friends, we lived a party lifestyle and became good friends through our tastes in music. We were together for 10 years until Charlie popped the question. We got tickets for a festival called Solfest, Charlie booked us a luxury yurt for the weekend, found the perfect ring and proposed inside the yurt. We popped the Bollinger and had an amazing weekend. The whole idea of getting engaged whilst doing what we had always enjoyed together was really special.
Was there an overall theme to your day?
The theme was “Us” we tried our best to incorporate a mixture of our tastes, styles, and interests. There were elements of festival vibes, combined with our love of the natural world, Charlie’s love for fishing, and Bekki’s passion for floristry and art. The family element was blended with this and the intention was for us and our guests to see this throughout. We wanted it to be a lasting memory for our guests as well as ourselves.
How would you describe your day?
Fast…! Lol. No, seriously to us it was exactly as we had planned, the mix of guests was perfect, great people mean great memories. The weather held, which meant the woodland ceremony that we had our hearts set on could actually happen, despite the terrible forecast leading up to the day. Some crazy divine intervention occurred. So much happened in a relatively short space of time.
How long were you planning it for, and what was the best bit?
Being a couple for 14 years allows for plenty of time to discuss potential wedding plans, inevitably tastes change with age and time. We only really made a serious decision to book a venue 9 months before the wedding. We came out of a busy Christmas period into the new year and just thought “we have to do this now”. It was a crazy 9 months! The reason I think we did this is because, even if we had booked 2 or 3 years in advance we knew realistically we probably would put the plans in place until the last 9 months anyway. We dropped ourselves in the deep end but it worked out just fine.
Tell us about your venue:
Low Hall The Lakes…! My word we were so lucky to find this venue when we did, with availability roughly when we wanted it. It suited our needs perfectly; ceremony and reception all in one, the gorgeous “Lovable Old Barn”, the country cottage accommodation. We didn’t even realise there was a woodland option until Ben and Francesca pointed it out to us during our first visit….it ticked all the boxes. Ben and Francesca are really lovely people too, and that made the whole process less stressful.
What are your favorite details of the day?
Finally tying the knot, in the woods, having our children part of our ceremony. It was a really powerful and meaningful thing!
What was your budget?
12K…! (That went out the window) we spent about 14k.
Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding, for either the planning or the lead-up?
One thing to remember and consider is that if you over-complicate the day you could end up spending vast amounts of time planning out fine details. The day goes quickly for you and your guests, the finer details will mostly go unnoticed. Make it your wedding, focus on the real reason you’re doing it, the ceremony and the meaning to you as a couple. People will see this and will mean something to them too.
