Epic 80’s wedding inspiration with Pageant Queen vibes, vintage prom dresses + metallic jumpsuits…

80’s Wedding Inspiration…

Morning folks! Today I’m super pleased to share with you this epic 80’s inspired bridal shoot which took place at one of my fav Mr & Mrs Unique wedding venues, The Giraffe Shed.

With some serious Desperately Seeking Susan vibes, bold statement pieces and pops of colour you’re gonna love this…

Over to the creative team to tell us more…

80’s Obsessions…

A shared obsession for all things 80’s was the catalyst for this styled shoot at the awesome Giraffe Shed, which is owned by the equally awesome Hannah from Rocksalt Photography. After some back and forth over our Instagram DM’s, we discovered a shared affinity for TV series like Glow & Pose, which seem to have triggered an 80’s renaissance recently. After a meeting back in May, we gathered inspo, sourced some dope garments & props, and I created new tulle accessories and veils in a flurry of inspiration.

We wanted to go all out with accessories, focusing on statement pieces, like huge tulle bows and offbeat veils with pops of colour and print. 80’s weddings may have a connotation with bad taste and all things naff – but we wanted to make the best of the decade and pay homage to the epic fashion, ethos, and attitude that the 1980s evoke. This shoot took us from girly pageant queens in pink, to feeling like a Jem & The Holograms music video, to channeling Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan as prom rebels, dancing on the bar.

A wonderful team helped this vision come to life, with Jenny & Beth from Hair Comes The Bride giving plenty of oomph to the model’s tresses, whilst Colette Bailey chose colour pop makeup looks for a modern-day, 80’s inspired vibe. Born To Thread provided us with an epic silver metallic leather jacket & lightning bolt earrings, whilst Cheryl from The Dressmaker’s Daughter custom made the jaw-dropping purple metallic jumpsuit and gold jacket.

Other garments, such as the prom dresses, were original vintage pieces (including my mom’s bridesmaid dress from the actual 80’s), whilst W Collective provided the veils, headpieces and tulle garments for the shoot. The soundtrack for the day was the best and the coolest of the 1980’s (no Agadoo here), which definitely set the tone and empowered us throughout the day. Hannah of Rocksalt Photography captured the mood perfectly, as always, through photos and a video that have an authentic, nostalgic feel, straight out of a vintage Vogue.
