A Retro, Pub Wedding with a Mexican Twist…

Vicky & Louis’s Cool, Colourful Wedding…

This wedding of Vicky & Louis is super lovely! Rather than sticking with all the constraints of a traditional wedding, they chose to have a good old shindig at their local pub surrounded by friends and family.

The day was full of colour with a hint towards Mexico with their bright fiesta bunting, colourful cupcakes, bright flowers and day of the dead cake toppers… which we absolutely love! Oh and don’t forget to check out her Vivienne Westwood shoes…. LOVE!!

Why do you love this wedding…

This wedding was full of fun, colour and the vibe was easy and totally relaxed. There was only room for people to have a great time! The day was solely focused on Vicky & Louis (as it should be!) and how they wanted their wedding day to be. Breaking the traditional mould entirely, yet at the same time, love and emotion was present wherever you looked. It was simply lovely.

What were the couple’s requirements…

When I first met Vicky & Louis for a pre wedding consultation to discuss their day, it was very clear from the offset that they chose me to photograph their wedding due to my unobtrusive nature and style. As we went through their schedule we discussed different ways to photograph parts of the day, to make sure they got everything they wanted. We planned in a couples portrait which wasn’t originally what they were looking for, but I kindly insisted, and they are so happy with the photos that they are thrilled I convinced them otherwise!

Favourite details of the day…

Being a full on ‘Mexico’ lover, the cake toppers for me were just the ‘cherry on top’, of the cake – literally!

Favourite moment of the day…

I can’t quite choose between these two moments so I will relay both. Their service was lovely – and Louis was so ready to marry Vicky that mid way through the declarations read by the registrar, he proudly declared ‘I Do’. ‘I’m not finished yet!’ exclaimed the registrar much to everyones surprise and delight! I have beautiful photos of Louis, Vicky and the congregation laughing. It was a really great moment. My second favourite moment has to be the groomsman ‘nerv gun’ photoshoot at the pub!! Enough said…

Tell us how you met…

We originally met through friends when we were aged 15 and 16. We dated for a few months before eventually breaking up. We then met again 5 years later – we met on Monday, had our first proper date that Saturday at London Zoo and the rest, as you say is history!

What was your main hopes and plan for the day…

The thing that we wanted most was a relaxed day and fairly informal, ending in a good old fashioned knees up at the pub with all of our friends and family.

Was your favourite part of the day…

All of it – you can’t single out a particular moment of a day like that! It’s all part of an overall experience, from the exchanging of the rings, to the speeches, to the dancing – it was all PERFECT!

How was your day unique…

I think because our reception was a relaxed BBQ in a village pub and so avoided a lot of the usual wedding formalities. We also had a very eclectic choice of music throughout the day, starting with 50s classics and then in the evening we went for rock ‘n’ roll and ended with a drum and base rave (big thanks to Ollie & Joss for DJing!)

What was your budget…

£5000

What was your biggest expense…

Other than the honeymoon, the food and drink.

How did you save money…

We were very fortunate enough that Vicky’s parents were able to make a big contribution towards the wedding fund. We also managed to save a large amount of money by doing a lot of the smaller things ourselves such as the decorations, bouquets, flower arrangements and the music. Having the reception in a pub also cut out the big venue hire costs.

What was it like working with your photographer…

Fantastic! Louis went to school with Philippa so there was no awkwardness that you could feel when working with someone you don’t know. We were really impressed with her portfolio and had no doubt she would capture our day flawlessly, which did do and then some!

With a beautifully presented personalized memory stick of our photos, we couldn’t have asked for any more. She was really fun, easy to work with and had a 6th sense of all the moments and angels we wanted. She worked single handedly but covered all rooms as if the wedding was being covered by a pair of photographers!

Advice to any couples about to get married…

Keep the drinks to a minimum until later in the evening – you don’t want to forget any parts of the day. We were also given a great piece of advice by one of Louis’ friends which was to ask the driver to go for a half an hour ride between the ceremony and the reception. This gave us time to catch our breath, take it all in and set ourselves up for the reception whilst all the guests got settled. And finally one of the most important things…. A pair of flat shoes for the bride for the evening is a must!
