Tropical & Neon, Industrial-Luxe Bridal Inspiration!

A Tropical, Neon Brights…

It’s so refreshing when a bridal shoot hits my inbox and it has a really cool, different vibe about it. Mixing neon brights, tropical flowers, an industrial backdrop and cool bridal separates; I just love the styling of this shoot. Perfect inspiration for those who dare be a bit different…. Over to Bethany from Mode20 Style who art directed the shoot…

White Cloth Gallery in Leeds is one of the cities most versatile hidden venue gems. It’s perfect for the ‘modern industrial-luxe’ fanatic like myself, and it’s white gallery walls provide the ultimate blank canvas for anyone with a bit of an ‘out there’ vision. I couldn’t wait to transform this grungy, yet clean and modern space, with colossal neon lights, tropical influences and nods to an edgy editorial look. Utilising busy, cluttered and clashing textures, metals, florals and androgynous fashion-led vibes produced a stunning, effortlessly unique result.

I always try to break-the-mould when managing a creative shoot such as this one. I immersed myself in this kick-ass theme to create something entirely forward thinking and trend leading. Armed with a team of insanely talented visionaries, such as Ryan from Shutter Go Click who is always a delight to work with, I barely had a task at hand. We mixed some incredibly difficult-to-source props (although entirely worth it and beautiful,) and an array of exquisite colourful tropical-inspired floral arrangements by Sophie’s Flowers to showcase a completely new style of wedding – effortless edge at its best.

My aim with this particular shoot was to really spotlight the amazing talents that the UK wedding scene has to offer; The talent which I’m lucky enough to surround myself with every single day. I refused to hold back with anything, and really tried to pack-some-punch and creatively challenge my suppliers in a fresh and interesting way. I wanted to push the wedding barriers that we’re all too often restricted by, and pull something completely new and fresh out of the bag. One of my first points of call was Whitehouse Event Crockery who is up there with some of the best and most leading luxury suppliers in the country. They provided me with the most beautiful fun, bright and bold contrasting charger plates and opaque white champagne flutes to perfectly compliment our edgy neon-tropical vibe.

I enrolled the help of Posh Totty Designs (a stunning UK-based online home decor store) who sent me some beautiful interior pieces which I was determined to integrate into a modern-day trendy wedding setting. From copper wire geometric candle sticks, to stark white porcelain pottery-style vases, I tried to pull as many clashing metals together to create a messy and effortlessly laid-out style. I Love Retro also came on board to provide the most divine Pop Art inspired figurine lamb statue to perfectly embody our “Who Cares?” attitude for this shoot. They also sent me an incredible set-of-three neon light-sabre style lights which made for some amazing shots of our stunning model Gemma Sadler.

Instead of using traditional wedding gowns and accessories, I searched high-and-low for a jewellery designer who’s work would compliment this style of wedding. I found Rabal and instantly fell in love. Her jewellery is modern and edgy, yet completely intricate and stunning, and the obvious and luxurious Pakistan influences make it even more drool-able. I purchased garments from some popular high-street stores to keep the look very achievable, fashionable and fresh. We utilised a white tailored trouser and crop-top suit, a beautiful green embellished camisole and a beautiful lingerie-inspired silk-style blush pink gown to further enhance Gemma’s beauty.

Pompadour Lingerie made a gorgeous contribution by offering-up their dainty, romantic and lovely lingerie which I knew would perfectly contrast with our slightly androgynous and high-fashion vibe. I chose to use their soft blue set with an incredibly unique leather garter for some stunning lingerie shots. The Giant Balloon Company led the way in amazing props by kindly sending us some of their amazingly bold giant balloons. Myself and their team visioned up some clashing bright colours and tissue-paper tails to clash perfectly with the galleries blank canvas walls.

Our models’ hair and make-up was produced by the wonder team Jorja Barraclough Hair Stylist and Rebecca Asquith Makeup Artist. It was the first time I’d been lucky enough to work with these two stunning ladies and I’d jump at the chance to do it again! Their skills were undeniable in fashioning a multitude of looks for Gemma. I especially adored the soft Hollywood-inspired waves combined with a brown-nude lip and shockingly striking smoky eyes and lashes. Gemma pulled-off a gorgeous slicked back hairstyle perfectly and her beautiful coral lip worked perfectly with our effortless lingerie shots.

Phylecia Sutherland posted out some simple, yet ‘oh so effective’ place-cards which pulled the whole table-scape together. I adored her black-and-white calligraphy alongside our bare wooden table, neon colour palette and flickering candle-light. Another beautiful addition to the finished top-table was a precious cream sheepskin rug by another hidden gem in Leeds, Blackbird Vintage, who kindly dedicated the services of their very talented upholsterer for the day of shoot.

The ladies at The Wedding of My Dreams also came on board to offer-up some beautiful pieces of decor, such as their copper quilted tea-light holders and glass pineapple vases, which all made for stunning additions to the tropical inspired table-scape. Finally Keiron George Cake Design brought along the most striking, delicious and totally on-trend dessert table that I’ve ever seen. He combined a glorious 3-tier traditional yet edgy neon-light cake, blueberry doughnuts, lime frosted cupcakes, homemade pink lemonade in vintage-style milk bottles, bold orange macarons and an insanely devour-able 1-tier cake that was so stunning I didn’t want to eat it (but I did!)

I was lucky enough to enrol one of the best and and most bold-thinking teams I’ve had the pleasure of working with to date. Their hunger for fresh ideas and desire to produce something entirely trend-setting and unique amazed me, and we’re all very lucky to have such treasurable images to showcase as a result.

Any styling tips…

– Dare to be bold

– Look to catwalk, home interior, travel and high-street fashion trends for wedding styling inspiration

– Incorporate elements that aren’t necessarily in-keeping with the usual ‘wedding’ tradition to create an effortlessly cool style. Scrap the traditional wedding dress, purchase your shoes from the high-street, utilise candle-sticks from your favourite home interior store or throw on a bold-lip for something entirely unique and effortless

– Remember that an effective colour palette CAN be more than three or five complimentary colours. Think about clashing metallics and adopting contrasting colours to tailor something different. Don’t forget that multi-coloured is a big trend at the moment and is very easy to achieve on a budget

– Find a ‘blank canvas’ venue for styles such as this one, such as an art gallery, a marquee, a venue with lots of exposed brickwork or a clean and non-offensive bar
